This is another retrospective of a holiday in Bali on Balinese New Year. I wont go on about what a fun and beautiful place Bali is, ’cause it’s already spoken about so much. But what is also a must see and experience aspects about Bali is the Balinese New Year – locally called as Nyepi. Which also happens to be today 28th March 2017. This tropical place is bursting with so much culture and lot of their culture mythologically overlaps with Indian culture. Unlike what people go to Bali for the fun & frolic, Nyepi is all about bringing in the new year by maintaining silence and self-reflection. And Nyepi literally means “Day of Silence”. How serious are they about this day is that no one is allowed on the beaches or streets and one day in the year when the airport is shut. The rituals for bringing in the New Year are performed for 3-4 days. Visually and spiritually what appealed to me the most was Bhuta Yajna ritual which is performed to vanquish all the negative energies to create a a balance of God, Mankind and Nature. IMG_1492

The ogoh ogoh – demonic statues are paraded on the streets of the villages to appease Bhuta Kala. This process helps in purification. All of this resonated with a lot of hindu philosophies and mythologies I have grown up on.

The festival in a lot ways helped me personally. You could say it was my Eat, Pray and Love experience. I felt free as bird as I got rid of a lot of baggage just being around this atmosphere of total silence. When you see the ogoh ogoh burn to ashes, you feel that you getting rid of your own bad energies.

Standing at the crossroad of  the village with the entire show of parade with the effigies  was an overwhelming experience.  Even with the humidity and heat, it’s always a good reason to rediscover yourself. Happy Balinese New year to all out there! To all the souls who want some cleansing from their dark demons and shadows.

I typically see myself as a lazy blogger. As you will notice this post is after a long sabbatical of blogging. And these series of photos are from my trip to Andaman and Nicobar a year back. Hence, I picked the title nostalgia.

Life is so short and I believe in not waiting till my retirement to travel. I look forward to every special occasion to take a trip. I feel thats money well spent. And every year around my birthday seems the right time to do just that. Last year a picnic on the beach and scuba diving for the 1st time was the happiest moment of my life and the best gift I could give myself.

I will encourage anyone and everyone, if ever you have the opportunity to visit Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar islands then you must. The list of things to do here are endless. We started off discovering the history of this place by visiting Kaala Pani- the most famous Cellular Jail in Asia. And from here, ferried off to Ross Island prison Head Quarters. Mainly abandoned now with dilapidated structures post Tsunami but definitely worth a visit. Stayed here a couple of hours revisiting the history of Indian Independence.

Rest of the trip we spent getting our feet wet and soaking in the sun. Andaman island is definitely not dirt cheap by Indian standards but eat local & travel on rented bikes, that can help you save a few pennies. The toughest part of this trip for a non adventurous person like me was to push myself to do something different. I wonder now that if I would have never done my first scuba dive here, I would have regretted it for the rest of my life.

Most resorts here have their own diving instructors and our resort- Munjoh had one of the best instructors and diving gears. It was great how they cajoled me into making this monumental decision. I was pretty worried and phobic first but few minutes into the training i was prepared to get out there. And am I glad or what I took the step or dive into it. The world under the water is the most surreal. The flora and fauna were so overwhelming and that it was spiritual experience. If there is paradise on earth then this is it.

There is no night life as such in Andaman and Port Blair but you can always dine and have beer on the private beach of the resort. But don’t forget to carry that sun-block for daytime and mosquito repellent for the nights.

Gaurav and Katie former roommates and currently married spent lot of their courtship period enjoying food, energies and lifestyle in Singapore. Their friendship deepened during their long walks on East Coast Park and dinners at Arab street. The idea of this photo-shoot was to revisit their dating days and give a glimpse of the same to friends and relatives.

Shooting them together, madly in love against the backdrop of beautiful Singapore is truly one of the sweetest experiences. Crazily adorable couple sharing their love story.

Nobody plans to be a heterosexual, homosexual, transvestite… It takes courage to be who you are and thrust oneself in the greater power that control our being- Destiny.IMG_4930

Mankind should stop considering that it’s bigger than this fact and decide what’s good for everybody. Its hard to let go but that’s the only true freedom for oneself and others around you. IMG_4920

Close your eyes and believe in a version of world with letting go attitude. That will be the only true development and progression of us.

Don’t know whether to be angry with this view or just get used to the urbanization I m surrounded with.

backyardIn search of a simple life, I might fall upon it somewhere in my journey.

Every second of your public life will go noticed. Makes us little less of humans and more of animals in a zoo. Freedom of space is not as it seems.

Roaming on the streets everything will look in harmony. You did be considered a monster if you try to break this harmony. 100 days of Living-krutikothari

IMG_0756Gaurav and Katie’s love story started 2 years back when they started living in as room mates. Little did they know that the universe was conspiring to get them together. And cut to the present day where the proposal happened in the most romantic city in the world -Paris. It came as a total surprise to the to-be-bride. Though the magic of being in Paris did all the hard-work for Gauarv and the bride couldn’t stop her heart from saying yes. The next couple of months unlike other people this couple didn’t waste time in planning an extravagant wedding. They just got a licensed solemnizer in Singapore to get them married off…

There was no Bollywood twist to this story as the parents had happily agreed. As unconventional as they could get they got married in a hotel lobby where Katie was wearing a adorable red dress with a black cat brooch and to match her quirkiness Gaurav wore a red bow-tie.

The registration location and post dinner celebrations was like a treasure hunt for the friends as it was messaged just before the signing ceremony. Indeed it was an exciting event for everybody who was involved. The celebrations kick started with parading on the bay front and ended with a lovely chocolate, wine and dessert buffet at the Marina Bay sands.

If you hang out and try new places you can learn to fly here too. This place is helping me in self development and making me realize my nature in relation with the city and spaces. Magic can be known and made by oneself in any situation and location. Changing perspectives.
